Spring–fall the scenic drive is car-free — ride the free Zion Canyon shuttle from the Visitor Center. Park in Springdale and take the town shuttle to the gate, or walk in.

Not really a canyon — a giant amphitheater of thousands of orange-pink spires called hoodoos. Higher (8,000–9,000 ft), colder, and completely unlike anywhere else on Earth. ~1h50m from Springdale.
Canyon Trail Rides runs guided horse/mule trips down into the amphitheater on the Peekaboo loop — a bucket-list ride for Evelyn. Book ahead; age/weight limits apply.
Among the darkest skies in the U.S. Check for a ranger astronomy program / full-moon hike, and just look up — the Milky Way is right there.
Splitting one night here turns Bryce from a long day-trip into a sunrise-to-stars experience.
MSN → Las Vegas (LAS) is the closest good gateway (~2h40m to Zion). Delta connects via ATL/MSP (Chase = Delta Gold). Salt Lake City (SLC) is the alt — a Delta hub with more nonstops, but ~4h to Zion.
Rent a full-size SUV or minivan at LAS (6 people + gear). One base in Springdale means minimal daily driving except the Bryce day.
Zion: ~62°F day / 38°F night, mostly sunny. Bryce: ~45°F day / 22°F night, snow possible. Pack layers, sun + cold both.
America the Beautiful annual pass ($80) covers both parks. Angels Landing = separate lottery permit. Narrows bottom-up needs no permit (top-down does).
Broken-in trail shoes, day packs, refillable waters, sun hats + sunscreen (high-desert sun is strong), warm layers for Bryce, and Narrows rentals (neoprene + stick) in town.
Bryce sits at 8,000 ft — take it easy, hydrate hard. The whole region is dry and sunny; push water on the kids all day.
